As well as assisting in die temperature control, an insulation plate
attached to the backplate enables the electrical connections to the hot sprue
bush to be fitted to a channel on the outside of the backplate. In this
way the whole sprue bush can be removed from the die by removing only the
insulation plate and leaving the backplate intact.
If you do not wish to use an Insulation Plate on the Fixed Die Half,
the Back Plate should be made thicker to compensate. The depth L62 should be
made correspondingly deeper. The electrical connections can be fitted to a
channel machined on the inside of the backplate.
The sprue tip has an internal water cooling channel. It can be connected
using standard 1/8" water fitting extensions. The outlets are usually from
underneath the die, but may be from the side, depending on the orientation of
the runner system. Alternatively, the two side channels can be plugged, and a
syphon cooling system connected through the die block.
