As well as assisting in die temperature control, an insulation plate
attached to the backplate enables the electrical connections to the hot sprue
bush to be fitted to a channel on the outside of the backplate. In this
way the whole sprue bush can be removed from the die by removing only the
insulation plate and leaving the backplate intact.
If you do not wish to use an Insulation Plate on the Fixed Die Half,
the Back Plate should be made thicker to compensate. The depth L62 should be
made correspondingly deeper. The electrical connections can be fitted to a
channel machined on the inside of the backplate.
Note that there are no water cooling channels in the sprue tip of the
Series 8 due to its small size. However, the cooling requirements are low
enough that it can be provided by the contact area between the end of the sprue
bush and the die insert. For dies with heated oil channels in the cavity
inserts it is recommended that the end of the sprue bush be located in a
separate water cooled insert.
